At Managing Ourselves, workshops are more like topics. We’ve embedded each of these and more into an all around active and experiential curriculum. We’re all about learning by doing in a safe, productive and encouraging environment. As a friend and mentor of ours once said, “Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.”

Using Social Media Safely and Professionally
Colleges are doing it. Employers are doing it, too. People whose opinion matters to your future are going to Google your name, study your social graph and learn about you through your digital identity. We’re going to help you understand what works and what doesn’t. We’ll walk you through best practices for cleaning up your online persona so you can put your best foot forward to the people who, like it or not, are judging you based on publicly available online data. In the new freelance nation this is a very important topic and we’ll help you make sense of it as part of a coordinated strategy for success.
Collaborating in the Cloud
During our work at the conference each of our students will be setup with a collaborative online account that leverages Google Apps (in use at 61% of top universities) and a battery of other online collaboration tools hosted in the cloud. We’ll not only learn about these tools, but use them to run our organizations in real-time. We’ll also learn how to communicate like professionals in email, chat and text. We’ll make business-style presentations using tools like Google Presentations and Prezi. Overall we’ll learn how to use the availability of cheap, plentiful tools to maximize the productivity of our management teams.

Professional Networking Skills
Building a team, managing a project, meeting prospects and developing a positive reputation often involves networking. We’ll use our time together during the conference to learn and practice skills like mastering the perfect handshake, eating politely at a business dinner and putting your best foot forward in an interview. We’ll use active learning sessions and we’ll weave them right into your work. You’ll never even realized you learned so much about this sometimes frightening topic. We’ll also teach you have to interview on video so you look and sound professional.
Writing, Speaking and Presenting for Impact
It’s not enough to have a great idea. You’ve got to be able to express that idea in an increasingly hooked-up world that will expect videos, in-person and on-line presentations, written letters, typed emails and recorded webinars. You’ve got to be more proficient with communication than any generation before you. Our expert staff will lead you through active practice of each of these types of communication including reflective writing, public speaking, speaking on video, presenting to an audience and more. Our entire program drives home these critical skills.
